Dairy Free

The birthing of our lambs seems so long ago but in reality, it was just 3 months ago. Thanks for walking with me as I shared some of my sheep stories.  I could go on and on, but this will be my last one.

In May, I was holding the tiny newborn lambs. Some I had to bottle feed.  Then they switched to a pail to drink from if they could no longer stay with their momma. Most lived off of their mother’s milk and continued to grow.  But as the weeks went on, they needed more then just milk.

We raise most of ours on grass and Bill gives them whatever mineral they want.  Some live in the barn and get hay, grain and mineral.  Either way, I cannot pick them up since they are anywhere from 50 to 70lbs now.

Sheep cannot live on just milk.  The same is for us.  We cannot survive on just a diet of milk and need more to keep our mind and body strong and healthy.

As a Christ-follower, we need more substance to help us grow in our spiritual life too. However, if we never read the Scriptures, studied it, or prayed to The Source who gives us eternal life, we would stunt our Christian life.

People who live on milk are like babies who don’t really know what is right. Hebrews 5:13

That can be a dangerous spot to stay because it is easy to get off track and start to make up our own spiritual recipes and rules and make it truth.  I am deeply saddened by some of the things people accept as truth and think it is what God thinks too.  It is a far cry.

We need to have others in our life to engage and encourage us well. I am grateful for all the many good resources out there to help us in our healthy spiritual journey.

Check out http://bakerpublishinggroup.com/.  There are so many good books to choose from.  I have the privilege to read and review books for Baker Publishing Group/Graf-Martin Communications and can say there is lot of great selection.  www.Christianbook.com  is another website you can check out.  The best foundation for spiritual food and health is the Word of God.  For me, I am always learning something new even after years of reading Scripture.  The Bible App, for your cell or tablet, is great to take anywhere with you to read the Bible. Check out their great devotionals as well.

Sadly, there are some who think it is too hard to invest and grow as a Christ-follower.  Spiritual milk is all they want and find it easier to just coast.  Inner peace and contentment are lost and they end up trying to find other ways to make themselves happy.

For those that want to feast on the ‘meat’ of God’s word, you will be blessed. It doesn’t mean we get everything we want and we will be challenged, but there will be an inner joy, peace, and true fulfillment. I try to live it and believe it.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. John 14:7

We need healthy food to nourish our human bodies.  We need God’s food, the Scriptures, to nourish our souls.  I love the picture of the sheep above.  No qualms, they just dive right in and enjoy every bite.  Let’s be encouraged and challenged as we open the pages of Scripture and crack open good books to feed our soul as well.

Our sheep have taught me a lot about life.  I hope you have been encouraged too.

Eat up everyone!
