Eyes to See: Reflecting God’s Love to A World in Need

A great study if you are wanting to understand the world locally and globally and how to be a part of reaching out to show God’s love. This book by Compassion Canada will help not only Canadians but those in our world to realize the needs and the roots of problems.

I was hit by the small phrase, “God never intended poverty”. Poverty is not only across the ocean but right in our own towns.

This is a six week study with five daily readings making an easy read but packed full of thought provoking wisdom about how we can show God’s compassion, healing and mercy.

This books says, “No matter where you are coming from, we want you to know this: God has a beautiful plan for this broken world that He is unfolding even now, and He wants you to be a part of it.  God reveals throughout the Bible His deep care for those in poverty and facing injustice.”(p.12)

A firm believer in helping those in need, this is a must read that will give you a sense of community with God’s big picture and love to the world and what we can do to help!

This is such a relevant book for our times as we face issues about church, about same-sex marriages, and how we deal with our own wounded-ness.  We all struggle…that is a given.

Melissa shares her own personal story about the church, growing up in a divorced home, and her list of “Earn. Perform. Protect. Repeat”.  She shares about the hurt from her parents, her experiences of church, and her outlook on life that led her down a road, even though it looked good, experienced no peace.  She was married into a same-sex lifestyle, had her dream job, but something was missing.  God kept telling her to COME. AS. YOU. ARE.

It is easy to blame organizations and God, but Melissa walks us through some positive perspective and the joy of working hard to be all that God meant for us to be. It was a journey of true freedom as she expressed in three words: “Behold. Believe. Behave.”

She encourages us about God’s love regardless of sexual identity or gender orientation to have a relationship with Jesus.  We don’t have to fear or try to do life all on our own.

At the end of the book are touching testimonies from her mom, dad, and reflections from Kristi who was her married partner.

You will be blessed. It is the ‘Way of Hope”

Friends, Partners & Lovers by Kevin A. Thompson

I found this book to be one of the best books on marriage.  Kevin Thompson has great insight into what makes a good and healthy couple.  I’ll quote him because he says it best.

We need to be friends. He says, “Positive experiences build our friendship, and friendship is the foundation of marriage.” P.43

We need to be partners.  Kevin states, “Marriage is the partnership of two equals who use their strengths in different areas for the mutual benefit of the couple.” P.96

We need to be lovers. He says, “But the unique aspect of a marriage is the intimate relationship between husband and wife…physical intimacy with only one person.” P. 153

For those who are contemplating marriage or already in a marriage, this book is packed with positive information and tools to improve your marriage. No one will ever have a perfect marriage because we are human, so Kevin’s insight will encourage you to live a life as husband and wife in all it should be.

Kevin A. Thompson uses his own personal life experiences as well making it a very practical book.

As a single mom, you have a choice about the dating scene. This book will help you process when the time is right, who to date, and the marriage scene again.

The story takes place in the year 1762, when the Amish and Mennonite settlers and Indians continued to fight for land. Many lives were lost as each stood for what they felt was rightly theirs. Under the Summer Sky by Melody Carlson

This was such an enjoyable book.  It tweaked my interested because the story takes place in Savannah where I had recently visited.

Nicole, a high school teacher from Seattle, spends her summer holidays helping old friends working at the Art Gallery and house-sitting for them while they take a world tour.  What she doesn’t bargain for is the people that enter her lives and the situations she faces.  As the summer unfolds, she has two brothers vying for her attention, she deals with an insecure teenager, and works with a feisty co-worker at the Gallery. All her ‘holiday’ time challenges her to think through her next step in life and where Savannah fits into all of it.

On Love’s Gentle Shore by Liz Johnson

I enjoy heading back to Prince Edward Island, as the author weaves her story of characters in the small town along the shores of this beautiful island. The story is the third in this series and her love for PEI sets a story where hearts are joined and forgiveness breathes freedom.

Natalie O’Ryan ran away from Prince Edward Island years ago and never wanted to return.  That was her old life, and now her fiancé surprises her with having their wedding on the island.  He doesn’t know her past, and she isn’t wanting to deal with it. While setting up their wedding, Natalie runs into her old friend, Justin, whom they had made promises to years ago and now have to deal with their past.

As the pages unfold, and truth keeps pushing its away to the surface as people begin to re-unite, unconditional love heals the wounded, and new beginnings unfold.

Why not take some time to visit PEI and see how God weaves the lives of those special people on this special island?

Bruxy Cavey’s book is jam-packed; filled with life’s insights.  Bruxy takes us back to the foundation of what true Faith is. Whether or not you are living out a certain belief system, this book is a positive challenge to (re)visit and (re)unite God’s intentions for a fulfilling life. I’ll quote his reason for this book.  “I’m writing to spiritual seekers: people who are open to God, interested in Jesus, but not yet committed to any one path….secondarily, I’m writing to Christians who want to dig deeper into their own faith.”

As we pursue a deeper relationship with Jesus, not religion, we will have fresh eyes to those around us that need compassion and empathy, and we will want to be involved not only in His Kingdom work but a deeper relationship with Him. God is love and our (re)-union with Him will help us be people of passion and depth that God only ever wanted us to be.

Book will be released May 2017. Get your copy and be challenged and inspired!

Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World

fading starlightA wonderful story about a young women, Lauren, falsely accused of a fashion catastrophe who takes the fall for a highly recognized designing firm. With the support of her friends, a beautifully stitch-by-stitch story unfolds along with her walk of faith to trust God to work things out.

I enjoyed reading about her designing and sewing projects as she tries to ‘stitch’ her life together. Lauren encounters a cranky, elderly forgotten actress who owns antique designer gowns and they begin to weave into each other’s lives. Her new job is to work for a high school in desperate need of a costume designer. The hub of all this is a quaint cottage where she begins to heal and sort through life. During her quiet times, she listens to the Great Designer of Life to let God take all the loose threads of her life and make it into a beautiful masterpiece.

I highly recommend this book.

The REAL HeavenThe Real Heaven, What the  Bible Actually Says

There are numerous books and movies about Heaven so I was intrigued by the title. Chip Ingram and Lance Witt go into very clear and biblical based facts, mixed with wit, about this amazing place called Heaven.

Great insight and thought as gone into this book; all based on Scriptures.  The chapters answer questions one being, What REALLY happens After I Die? They talk about our loved ones in eternity and the wonderful things we can look forward to. When life on earth is tough, we can be reminded of a perfect Heaven God has made for all Christ-Followers. This is a refreshing 162 pages of what Heaven is all about.  At the back of the book is helpful information about the Bible and FAQ’s about Heaven and eternity.

A clear and straightforward look at the REAL Heaven. I highly recommend it!

Busy days and overtaxed schedules leave us little time to relax and reflect. This adult colouring book is a great option to help you do just that!  I enjoyed the time to create with various colours, inside and outside the lines, my own work of art. As the colours were intertwined together, it gave me pause to think of the Scripture verses of God’s love. Need some time to relax?  Colouring is a great option to quiet your body and spirit. Grab your crayons and design!

Hope Harbor is just that.  A place where people’s lives intertwine in the most unexpected places to bring hope. I loved the unexpected moments as healing begins and gently creates new adventures in the quaint to9780800724528wn of Hope Harbor.

Because my husband and I had visited a cranberry farm, this book brought extra intrigue to open its pages.

Irene Hannon created these fictional people to live out real life experiences of heartache, grieving, true companionship, and love restored.

You will be glad for the time you put your ten toes up and enter into Hope Harbor where these people become alive and weave into your  heart. I looked forward to sitting down with this book to see where the next adventure would go. I am looking forward to her next book about Hope Harbor in 2016.
