Magazines, social media, and television is trying to convince us about a new and improved product, a reliable used car, an amazing wrinkle-free cream, or a magical drink that will melt pounds off in just 5 days. The new guy in your life says you are the best thing since sliced bread, and a new friend is planning all kinds of fun things to do with you and promises to babysit whenever you need. It can be exhausting!
We have thistles that invade our farm. These beauties are called the Cirsium Arvense aka Canada Thistle. Their pink hue is gorgeous and calls for a Kodak moment. If you think they might be nice for the dining room table, think again. They are extremely prickly and picky. Ouch!
Doesn’t these thistles remind us of people or situations, listed above? Things seems to look good at first but then… wham, we are hit sideways.
That drink to make us lose weight hasn’t budged the scale, after a week the car is in the shop, and wrinkles are still staring us back in the mirror. Painfully, you see that guy with another woman, or your new bf keeps cancelling on you.
This beautiful thistle doesn’t bloom that long. Take a look at what happens to this Cirsium Arvense. Quite a contrast! Such will be those that live a life of lies and broken promises as truth will one day be revealed.
It hurts living us wondering what to do? God’s Word says in John 8:31, Jesus told the people who had faith in him, ‘If you keep on obeying what I have said, you truly are my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’
I have prayed many a prayer asking God to reveal truth, HIS TRUTH, when like situations entered my life. It can be easy to become bitter but with God’s help, we will make it!
Life isn’t always like thistles. Despite other people’s actions, we can live out a life of TRUTH…God’s Truth! God is with us regardless of ‘prickly’ situations! So, wrinkles will come, we will need to count calories, take a car-wise friend to look at used vehicles, and realize there will be fair-weather friends. Life is just that, but we live in victory because God is TRUTH.
See that little flower beside the Canada Thistle? I have picked those pretty blue ones and pressed them in a book. They are beautiful even though they share the same soil as those “pretty prickly” plants.
John 3:21, But everyone who lives by the truth will come to the light, because they want others to know that God is really the one doing what they do.
Yes, Pretty awesome and far from pretty prickly!
- Ask God for wisdom when prickly people enter your life
- Believe living by God’s Truth will set you free
- When you are feeling like the thistle, ask God to help you be the pretty blue!
- Memorize John 3:21
YOU CAN DO THIS!
