Stores are overstocked with red and pink greeting cards, cookie cutter hearts hanging from displays, and more varieties of chocolates than anyone could possibly eat! Restaurants are packed and lined up like the malls on Dec. 24th.
Valentine’s Day was a very hard day for me. I know it is a commercial holiday but as a single mom, it reminded me all too well that I was just that…SINGLE. Memories of past celebrations mixed with the painful reality that He loved someone else bore deep to my very soul.
What to do, what to do! So on February 14th, I made it about the girls. We usually ate something `red` for supper like spaghetti, ate heart-shaped cookies and they were given small gifts. They knew I loved them every day; not just on the 14th. My desire was that they would have a positive attitude about love beyond the Love Day.
I also knew in my heart that God passionately and lovingly cared for me. I have quoted this before, but it is worth repeating. Author, Henry Nouwen said that God looks at us and says, I love you because I love you because I love you. No pretense and no conditional love. God just does.
Jeremiah 31:3, The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
From the Old Testament pages and throughout the New Testament, God`s love is weaved through every 66 books.
Ephesians 2:4-5, But God was merciful! We were dead because of our sins, but God loved us so much that he made us alive with Christ, and God’s wonderful kindness is what saves you.
God provides an everlasting love for anyone who asks Him. He has a 100% guarantee today and into eternity. This love far surpasses a valentine’s card or dinner reservation. This is one eternal reservation I am glad to have!
While co-workers, friends, and neighbours were making plans for dates on the 14th, my girls and I were celebrating inside our little home.
God showed His love through little notes from my daughters to help me re-focus on what was truly important. I call these notes, God Hugs.
Feel loved this Valentines. God`s wonderful kindness and everlasting love will never fail.
