As I sit looking out the window, most leaves have found their new home on the ground. October seems to have gone by so quickly.

I am not a big fan of Halloween. However, it was always a fun dress-up time for the girls and an opportunity for me to say howdy to our neighbours as they shared 100% sugar with kids on the street.img021

Trying to figure out what my kids wanted to be, revving up the sewing machine, or trying to buy an inexpensive costume was tricky (or treat!) To me it was the last hurrah of Autumn.

These single mom years can be a positive reminder to take off our masks and be ourselves. I was Linda, mother of two, divorced, and a Christ-follower. No pretenses, just Linda. When I accepted that fact, I began to wear my mask less and work on who God intended me to be.

For kids, pretending to be someone is fun. As an adult, it becomes frustrating and unfulfilling.  I know this because I lived it.  What freedom I experienced to see Reality for what it was.  I had a failed marriage but I wasn’t a failure.  I had great responsibility and made mistakes yet God was my Great Assistant to help me do my best.  Life was hopeful and God was there encouraging me along the way.

Genesis 1:27, “So God created humans to be like himself; he made men and women.”

ID-10041537Why not ask God to help you see the real YOU. Your status whether separated, divorced, or widowed is just a title. Who you are is a person made in God’s image. Isn’t that cool!  He wants to help you take off your mask and become who He has created you to be.

As you walk around with your kids this Halloween and enjoy all the cute costumes and masks, take time to evaluate yourself without a mask. When you do this, you will be more fulfilled instead of trying to play a different part. This can be one exciting journey.
