When life throws us a curve ball in the game of life and we find ourselves striking out, God is right there saying ‘you can do this, keep trying!’
I didn’t choose single motherhood as part of my journey. It was truly the most painful run of my life. Autumn brought a reminder of a failed marriage, and when my birthday on October 14th came around; I wondered what my role was on earth.
Jeremiah 29:11 became my favourite verse to hold onto so I could move forward. ‘For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’
If there was one thing I needed; it was hope!
My girls loved to make my birthday special. Bless their hearts. When they were young, I would give them a little bit of money and take them shopping. They were too young to be left alone so I would wander around in the store until they had purchased their little treasures for me.
Every once in a while, I would peak in the aisles to make sure they were ok. One very touching moment, which brought me to tears, was seeing them sitting on the floor counting out how much each item cost. They wanted to make sure it would not go over how much money they had. It was their first lesson in budgeting.
Everything they choose was dear to my heart. They taught me what it was to celebrate my life. The girls were my cheerleaders in this Game of Life. As they got older, they were able to buy gifts on their own.
Do you ever question and wonder your purpose here on earth? I would really encourage you to borrow or buy the book by Rick Warren called, The Purpose Drive Life: What on Earth Am I Here for? It is truly an inspiring look at why God has placed us here on this planet. To me that was amazing hope!
In this book Rick Warren says, “Experience is not what happens to you. It is what you do with what happens to you. Don’t waste your pain; use it to help others.”
Autumn is a time to celebrate the changing colours of the leaves with all’s beauty. It can also be a time to celebrate a sense of peace that we are here for a purpose. Birthday’s come every year at the same time. I can look back and see how God has walked beside me. Nothing was ever a surprise to Him.
Rick Warren also said, “You were made by God and for God and until you understand that, life will never make sense.”
Whether it is your birthday month or not, experience Autumn in a fresh way knowing you are here on Planet Earth for a reason. As I look back over my birthday seasons, I would never have imagined those 17 years ago, His faithful direction in my life. It is cause to celebrate!
