At whatever age, it is fun to create new memories. The verse on the cover page of my blog says,”Don’t think about the past. I am creating something new. There it is! Don’t you see it?” Isaiah 43: 18 (CEV).
As a single Mom, you can choose to dwell on the painful past or move ahead to a positive lifestyle. Every day is an opportunity to demonstrate an optimistic outlook on life for all of you.
Like me, you may have had some hard months dealing with negative situations and heartache. You may be separated, grieving the death of a husband, or the divorce is finalized. Those memories need to be packed up in a memory box of your mind so you can make room for new ones. Some memories were lessons that you learned from to move ahead.
It’s time! It’s time to make new memories! We all have to stand at a crossroads choosing to create new memories. Ask yourself if you want to keep dragging the old battered ones with you or are you ready to build new ones?
I recall one woman who would not let go of her past. She assumed her ex would come running home and she lived a defeated life in denial. I am sad to say, to this day, she still waits and lives a very lonely life while he has long since moved on.
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV) Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Life does go on. There will be routine of school, work, laundry, medical appointments, yard work, weekly custody visit ad infin. In the mix of all this, I encourage you to make a ‘to do’ list called, MAKE NEW MEMORIES. You and your kids need to laugh together, go on a road trip, have a movie/pizza night and for goodness sake….jump on the bed!!
My girls were never allowed to jump on the beds. It was a house rule. So whenever I could pinch some money together, I would treat them to a one night hotel stay with an indoor pool and beds to jump on! We would strike out to see the sights in the area but they would soon comment it was nice but they wanted to go back to jump on the beds and swim. I soon caught on to get a hotel about 10 miles from our home!
Negative memories are a reality but you have the exciting choice to create new positive ones. Grab your imaginary album and begin collecting new memories that will leave an imprint on all your hearts.

• Choose to learn from past memories then pack them up.
• Talk with your kids about ‘remember when’ and laugh.
• Write out a to-do list of some fun memories for this new month.
• Call a friend and her kids and make a new memory together.
• Remember it doesn’t cost a lot of make a new memories but it will be priceless.
